MISSION, FAQS + CONTACTS

Our On This Rock Climbing Festival is about improving accessibility, experiencing belonging, and considering jesus in the climbing community.

  • On This Rock is a climbing event that we host next to Smith Rock in Terrebonne, Oregon. The event focuses on increasing accessibility, experiencing belonging, and considering Jesus in the climbing space. We had close to 300 attendees in 2022.

  • On This Rock 2024 is October 11-13, 2024.

  • On This Rock is a totally free event. We’re blessed to have many donors and partners from year to year to help pay for the price of putting on the event.

  • You sure can! Our On This Rock events cost around $20,000 to put on and our first event impacted over 300 people throughout the weekend. From our location, tent, many meals, water, professional-guides, and Reel Rock—everything has a dollar sign and those are just some of the many event details that we budget for. Want to be a donor? Head HERE to join us in our OTR events! We’re blessed to have donors like you be a part of this incredible journey.

  • Sweet!

For two decades, Reel Rock has been sharing the biggest stories from the world of climbing, celebrating the human side behind the sport's greatest adventures and achievements.

Every year, Reel Rock brings a new selection of the best climbing films on tour worldwide, and through their streaming platform.

Founded in 2005 by Josh Lowell, Peter Mortimer, and Nick Rosen - creators of the iconic feature documentaries Valley Uprising, The Dawn Wall and The Alpinist - Reel Rock has grown into the premier global platform for award-winning climbing films.

You can also check out there website, HERE.

  • Yes, you sure can! Many of our Central Oregon locals came to last years showing of REEL ROCK 17 and didn’t stay for the whole On This Rock weekend. If you’d like to only join us for REEL ROCK 18, you’re more than welcome to—you’re missing out though!

  • We have a large location for OTR because we want to give you the opportunity to camp on-site! There’s nothing like waking up in the morning to Smith Rock’s majestic nature. You’re also welcome to stay off-site. We’re more than happy to give some suggestions for places to stay!

  • Many of the meals during the weekend are provided thanks to donors and partnering organizations. Meals include both Saturday and Sunday breakfast + dinner. You’ll have to provide your own food for lunch. There are some grocery stores and yummy restaurants nearby. You can also leave comments when you register about food allergens. We’ll do our best to be accommodating!

  • Definitely not! You’re welcome to come hang for some good times. If you’re new to climbing and want to be professionally-guided, there a few different groups going out on both Saturday and Sunday. You’ll be able to select one of those groups if you’d like. It’s totally free, but spots are extremely limited.

  • Registration will be announced soon.

CONSIDER DONATING

If your place of residence is outside of Central Oregon, we are kindly requesting that you consider partnering with OTR and its hosting organization - Common Ground - by donating towards this event. Here’s the deal: It is OTR’s commitment to offer this event to our entire community at no mandatory fee so as to keep our event as financially accessible as possible. That being said, the primary focal-population of this event and its hosting organization is our local Central Oregon community. For context, OTR costs around $20,000 and has impacted the lives of nearly 300 people each year, many of whom traveled from out of the area to participate. To ensure that OTR’s life-giving impact continues and grows in a way that is both sustainable and consistent with our mission, it would be immensely helpful to have your financial support for this event. Please know two things:

  1. 100% of any donations will go towards On This Rock events.

  2. If you are planning to travel from out of the area and can’t swing a donation, that’s totally fine. Please still join us!
